How do I add a deputy?

Follow these steps to add a new deputy from the web app:

  1. Go to the My Deputies page under Secure Sharing.
  2. Select Add your first deputy. A new window should pop up.
  3. Enter your deputy’s first name, last name, and email address and select a relationship from the dropdown. If you don’t see an applicable relationship, select other.
  4. Select Continue. You’ll see a list of items you’ve added.
  5. By default, all items are set to Do not share. You’ll have to option to change the permission to Share now for items you would like to share immediately and Share after death for items you want to make available only after your death. You can set permissions for all items from the dropdown on top of the screen. When you are done with item permissions, select Continue.
  6. If you chose to lock parts of your Everplan until after death, you’ll be asked if the deputy should be allowed to unlock those items.
  7. In the final step, you can optionally add a personal message.
  8. Select Send Invitation. You should see a confirmation screen letting you know that invitation is on its way.  
  9. On the My Deputies page, you’ll see the new deputy listed, along with a status of “Pending.”
  10. When your deputy accepts your invitation, we’ll change their status to Active and notify you via email.

Follow these steps to add a new deputy from the mobile app:

  1. Tap on Sharing listed in the bottom navigation.
  2. Tap on + circle in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  3. You will then have the option to import contact or manually enter their information.
  4. Enter your deputy’s first name, last name, and email address and select a relationship from the dropdown. If you don’t see an applicable relationship, select other. Tap Continue.
  5. By default, all items are set to Do not share. You’ll have the option to change the permission to Share now for items you would like to share immediately and Share after death for items you want to make available only after your death. You can set permissions for all items from the dropdown next to All. When you are done with item permissions, select Continue.
  6. If you chose to lock parts of your Everplan until after death, you’ll be asked if the deputy should be allowed to unlock those items.
  7. In the final step, you can optionally add a personal message.
